Description: Keto wrecked my thyroid and my metabolism because I was in ketosis too long with a thyroid that was vulnerable to begin with. Long term ketosis can damage your thyroid and make your metabolism slower because cortisol blocks T4 to T3 conversion. I had a bad thyroid to begin with but it was very well controlled and I was able to lose weight and had plenty of energy. I lost my weight with my thyroid diagnosis. Keto blocks the conversion of T4 to T3 when in ketosis and I was in ketosis for so long that my thyroid stopped being well controlled. My metabolism was damaged because of that. Now I have the following symptoms ONLY AFTER DOING KETO. I had none of these symptoms before: - Feeling cold when it's not cold - Night sweats - Cold hands and feet - Feeling cold before bed - Intolerance to outside cold temperatures - Heavy periods - Brittle hair - Brittle, soft, peeling, ridged nails - Unexplained weight gain - Very dry skin - Muscle weakness (I can't exercise like I could before) - Reduced stamina (again exercise is more tiring, faster) - Fatigue - Inability to concentrate - Hair loss - High anxiety - Internal tremors - Low blood pressure - Ectopic beat (skipped heartbeat) This won't happen to everyone. Some can do keto and get better, some can do keto for life, some can do keto and it has no effect on their thyroid. That doesn't negate my experience.
